BECKLEY, W.Va. — The Beckley Warming Center is preparing to open its doors for the 2026–2027 season and is calling on community members to help support one of the region’s most vital winter outreach programs.
Organizers say the center relies heavily on volunteers, donated supplies, and monetary contributions to operate each year. Churches, civic groups, and local residents already play a major role in staffing the center and providing essential items — but with demand continuing to grow, additional help is needed.
“Volunteers are the heart and soul of the warming center and it will not succeed without you,” organizers said in the announcement.
To prepare for the upcoming season, the center will hold two volunteer training meetings:
- October 29 at 6 p.m.
- November 5 at 6 p.m.
Both sessions will take place in the fellowship hall at Beckley Community United Methodist Church, located at 217 South Heber Street, Beckley, WV 25801.
The center is also accepting monetary donations and a list of needed items, including:
- New pillows
- New or gently used coats
- New socks
- Warm gloves
- New or gently used clean blankets
- Warm hats
Organizers say the need for warming center services continues to expand as more residents seek shelter during the winter months.
Those interested in volunteering, requesting a presentation for their church or organization, or seeking more information can call 304‑252‑3435. The church secretary is available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, and messages may be left at any time.
Monetary donations may be mailed to:
Beckley Community United Methodist Church 217 South Heber St. Beckley, WV 25801
The center says it looks forward to welcoming new volunteers and continuing its mission of providing a safe, warm space for those in need throughout the winter season.
