Capito Supports Health Care Freedom for Patients Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R‑W.Va.) announced her support for the Health Care Freedom for Patients Act, legislation she says will lower health care costs and give families more control over their care.
The bill directs funding to patients rather than insurance companies, allowing those on bronze and catastrophic plans to access dollars through Health Savings Accounts. It also funds cost‑sharing reduction payments to lower premiums, expands access to low‑cost catastrophic plans, and requires states to verify citizenship before granting Medicaid coverage.
Capito said the measure provides a permanent alternative to temporary COVID‑era subsidies and ensures West Virginians can make health care decisions that best fit their families.
