Charleston, WV-West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey is offering condolences following the death of former State Senator Larry Edgell. Edgell, a longtime educator, veteran, and Democratic lawmaker from the Northern Panhandle, served nearly two decades in the West Virginia Legislature.
In a statement Thursday, Morrisey said he was saddened to learn of Edgell’s passing, noting that the former senator “devoted nearly two decades of his life to serving the people of West Virginia,” and represented his community with “integrity, humility, and a steadfast commitment to the public good.”
Edgell, a former teacher and coach, was known for his work on education issues and for advocating on behalf of rural communities during his time in the Senate. Morrisey said Edgell’s service — in the classroom, in uniform, and in the Legislature — reflected a lifelong dedication to improving the lives of others.
The Governor extended his condolences to Edgell’s family and encouraged West Virginians to honor the former senator’s contributions to the state.
