Gas prices across West Virginia jumped sharply this week, with the statewide average climbing to $4.457 per gallon, according to AAA’s latest report. That’s a 31‑cent increase from last week as crude oil continues hovering near $100 per barrel, driven in part by volatility in the Strait of Hormuz.
Northern West Virginia saw some of the steepest increases, with communities like Bridgeport, Clarksburg, Morgantown, and Wheeling all reporting averages above $4.50. The national average also rose to $4.47, approaching its 2026 high. AAA says gasoline demand has increased while crude inventories have fallen, adding pressure to pump prices.
Drivers in Charleston are feeling the impact as well, where the local average has climbed to $4.33, up from $4.16 just a week ago. Residents told WOWK‑TV the rising costs are straining budgets, especially for commuters and students. Diesel prices in the region have surged above $6.41 per gallon
