Governor Morrisey Issues Statement Following President Trump’s Order to Lower Flags for SPC Sarah Beckstrom

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Governor Patrick Morrisey today released a statement honoring SPC Sarah Beckstrom after President Donald Trump ordered all U.S. and state flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide.
The President’s order comes in recognition of Beckstrom, a 20-year-old member of the West Virginia National Guard who was killed in service.
Governor Morrisey thanked President Trump for the gesture, saying it “means a great deal to Sarah’s family, to the West Virginia National Guard community, and to so many across our state who are grieving her loss.”
Morrisey described Beckstrom as someone who “lived with a courage and a sense of service well beyond her years,” remembered for her warmth, smile, and determination to help others.
The Governor also asked West Virginians to continue praying for SSgt Andrew Wolfe, who remains hospitalized following the same incident. “His parents have shared only one request at every step: to keep the prayers coming,” Morrisey said.
“May God comfort Sarah’s family, strengthen Andrew and his loved ones, and watch over all the brave men and women who serve our state and nation,” the Governor concluded.
