In this episode of Our Communiversity Today, Dr. T. Ramon Stuart sits down with a proud WVU Tech alumnus who now plays a critical role in West Virginia’s future: State Treasurer Larry Pack Sr. From humble beginnings in the Upper Kanawha Valley to becoming a CPA, health care executive, and now the state’s chief financial officer, Pack’s story is one of grit, purpose, and deep commitment to community.
Pack reflects on his time at Tech in Montgomery in the 1970s, where he studied accounting and built lifelong friendships. While many associate Tech with its engineering programs, Pack reminds listeners that the university has long been a training ground for top-tier business professionals. After two decades in accounting, he entered the health care sector, founding a company that grew from three employees to more than 3,500.
A recurring theme throughout the conversation is servant leadership. Whether building a business or leading a state office, Pack emphasizes that success is about team building, empowering others, and staying grounded in faith.
