Beckley, WV – (WWNR) – On Friday, local leaders and community members cut the ribbon on a new restaurant for downtown Beckley.
Upland Soul Food, located at 208 Main Street in Beckley, is open Monday thru Friday from 10:30am to 6:30pm and offers old fashioned soul food for dine-in or carryout.
Co-owners Tamara Granjean and Beckley attorney and city council member Robert Dunlap say the new restaurant will give people the opportunity to enjoy comfort food like they grew up on, with time, effort and love put into every dish to make people happy.
“I’m so glad of all the support that I have had and I continue to pray that y’all still come and support us,” said Granjean. “I’m grateful for my brothers and sisters and my friends that’s helped me and I’m just excited.”
“I have had a great turnout the last four days since my soft opening. I have sold out every day. We have meatloaf, pork chops, whiting, um, fried chicken, collard greens, mashed potatoes, potato salad, baked beans. And we have desserts.”
“This is the first restaurant that I’ve opened my own checkbook and became a co owner on,” said Dunlap, “because I felt it was just that important for us to get them off on the right foot and make sure that they had all the resources necessary to have the best offerings until they’re running on their own. It’s taken over a year and a half of planning and meeting with these folks to see what kind of a restaurant they wanted to put in and find out how it could serve Beckley best with takeaway and eat in food.”
Upland Soul Food is a family affair, with Tamara’s brother and sister working in the kitchen. For carryout orders, call 304-777-7513.
