BECKLEY, W.Va. — Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Authority is partnering with several regional organizations to launch a new Youth Outdoor Adventure Program aimed at introducing middle‑school students to outdoor recreation opportunities in southern West Virginia.
The program, announced Tuesday, is a collaboration between RCPRA, Stewards Individual Placements, Active Southern West Virginia, and the WV NICA Raleigh County Youth Composite. It features three monthly sessions at Lake Stephens designed to teach students outdoor skills including hiking, mountain biking, paddle‑boarding, and leave‑no‑trace principles.
The sessions will be held June 16, July 14, and August 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. and are open to students entering grades six through eight. Organizers say the goal is to create a safe, welcoming environment for youth to explore outdoor recreation and learn about the region’s growing adventure‑based industries.
