State of Emergency Declared for Boone and Lincoln Counties After Flash Flooding

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Governor Patrick Morrisey has declared a State of Emergency for Boone and Lincoln counties after slow‑moving thunderstorms dumped intense rainfall Wednesday, overwhelming creeks, streams, drainage systems, and low‑water crossings across southern West Virginia.

Flash flooding led to water rescues, road closures, flooded roadways, and hazardous travel conditions, with saturated ground increasing the risk of additional flooding, landslides, and infrastructure damage.

Morrisey urged residents to stay alert, avoid flooded roads, and follow instructions from local emergency officials. The declaration enables state agencies to coordinate personnel, equipment, and resources to support local response and recovery efforts. The order remains in effect for 30 days, unless ended earlier.
