CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia closed Fiscal Year 2026 with a $370 million surplus, driven by stronger‑than‑expected tax collections across multiple categories. The Department of Revenue reported $5.693 billion in General Revenue Fund collections, surpassing estimates by seven percent. June alone brought in $569 million, beating projections by 11.1%.
Gov. Patrick Morrisey said the surplus allows the state to fully fund obligations, including $125 million for roads and infrastructure, the Hope Scholarship, and other priorities. Personal income tax collections exceeded estimates by $159 million, while consumer sales tax collections rose 7.2% over the prior year.
