MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. — A stolen vehicle complaint led to a brief pursuit and the arrest of a suspect Thursday morning following a coordinated response from multiple law enforcement agencies.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department said deputies were called just before 9 a.m. to the O’Reilly Auto Parts on Courthouse Road after receiving a report that a vehicle had been stolen from the business.
Within minutes, Athens Police Chief C.T. Lowe located the vehicle traveling along U.S. Route 460 and followed it into Bluefield while waiting for deputies to arrive. Sheriff’s units quickly converged on the area and stopped the vehicle at the intersection of Cumberland Road.
Deputies took the suspect into custody without further incident. The vehicle was recovered at the scene and later returned to its owner.
The sheriff’s department credited Mercer County 911, the Athens Police Department and the Bluefield Police Department for their assistance in the response.
