BECKLEY, W.Va. — A new national study is shining a spotlight on one of West Virginia’s most recognizable travel destinations. Tamarack Marketplace in Beckley has been named the Best Family Rest Stop in America, ranking ahead of well‑known stops such as Buc‑ee’s and the Iowa 80 Truckstop.
The ranking comes from the SIXT+ car subscription service, which analyzed 30 of the most talked‑about rest stops in the country. Researchers scored each location on popularity, convenience, accessibility, family‑friendly amenities and nearby dining options.
Tamarack earned the highest overall score in the study — 94.6 out of 100 — including perfect marks for convenience and dining. Located at the intersection of Interstates 64 and 77, the marketplace was also recognized for its family facilities and strong traveler reviews.
Officials say Tamarack stands out because it offers more than a traditional highway break, showcasing West Virginia artisans, handcrafted goods and locally made food. The recognition comes as road‑trip travel continues to grow ahead of the 2026 summer season.
