Acute Inflections will perform at 7 p.m., at Beckley’s Historic Black Knight. This couple includes an R&B vocalist and an upright bass player, eL and Sadiki, who will perform a smooth, intimate program of reimagined standards and original songs. They have been described as “a velvety mix of Erykah Badu and Billie Holiday paired with the cool grooves of her 007 on bass.”
Individual tickets are $20 through beckleyconcerts.com or at the door, but the performance is included with the non-profit’s $55, six-concert season membership.
This special “Speakeasy” event in conjunction with the City of Beckley also offers a cash bar throughout the evening and a pre-concert New Orleans-style buffet at 6 p.m. Buffet tickets are sold separately for $18 and must be purchased through https://apimanager-cc24.
Buffet tickets will not be sold at the door. Proof of purchase must be shown upon entry. Buffet seating is limited.
“This jazzy, speakeasy concert is a unique way to start our new season,” said BCA President George Shriver. “The singer and the bass player interact with each other and with the audience, so we are expecting a fun and entertaining evening.”
From a Dave Matthews tribute band to Celtic singers and dancers, the upcoming season’s offerings have been carefully selected to give members a variety of performances and introduce the non-profit organization to new concert-goers. And thanks to a grant from Beckley Area Foundation, membership prices remain low.
“It’s still a bargain, and there’s definitely something for everyone,” Shriver added. “We have jazz, classical, 1990s, Irish, barbershop, and Motown, so this season offers a lot of musical diversity at a variety of venues.”
The next concert takes place Oct. 6, at 7 p.m., when DMTB Dave Matthews Tribute will celebrate the popular 1990s and early 2000s music of the Dave Matthews Band. Unique vocals, horns, percussion, and the band’s iconic violin sound will fill the Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium.
Pizzi Strings, known for elegance and versatility, will perform at Beckley Presbyterian Church at 7 p.m., on Nov. 12, and do a local educational outreach. This New York City-based women’s ensemble plays everything from classical to pop on violin, cello, harp, and guitar.
The holiday season will bring the Kanawha Khordsmen to The Raleigh Playhouse and Theatre on Dec. 6, at 3 p.m. Based in Charleston, this chorus will bring barbershop harmony to Christmas classics.
They’ll be followed by the Celtic Angels on March 9, 7 p.m., at the Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium. They will present an impassioned homage to their beloved Emerald Isle through enchanting harmonies and dance.
The season concludes on April 16, with a Motown Tribute performed by Charlotte, N.C.-based Al G & Friends Band, at 7 p.m.. Event organizers are hoping to get concert-goers out of their seats and onto the dance floor at the Raleigh County Armory Civic Center.
Though these concerts will also be priced individually, a BCA season membership includes all six performances for only $55 (or $50 for seniors 60+). To purchase a membership online, visit www.beckleyconcerts.com. Or mail a check to Beckley Concert Association at P.O. Box 2083, Beckley, WV 25801.
