The West Virginia Department of Human Services Announces Automatic LIEAP Application Mailing for Low Income Energy Assistance Program

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Human Services announced Friday that automatic applications for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program, or LIEAP, will begin mailing out on January 5, 2026.
The Bureau for Family Assistance says the annual mailing is intended to ensure timely access for some of the state’s most vulnerable residents, including households that received LIEAP benefits last season, older adults, and individuals with disabilities.
Households receiving an application through the automatic mailing will have until January 30, 2026 — or until program funds are exhausted — to submit their forms. Applications may be returned by mail, dropped off at a local DoHS office, or submitted online at wvpath.org.
Regular LIEAP enrollment for the general public opens February 2, 2026.
Applicants using a Public Services Commission–regulated utility for their primary heating source must provide a current utility bill. Those who heat with bulk fuels must submit verification of their fuel supplier and a receipt.
The maximum benefit available through LIEAP is $2,000 per household.
