FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. — Tickets are now on sale for Champions of Children: Mountains of Courage, an annual celebration honoring individuals and organizations who work to protect and uplift children across Southern West Virginia. The event will be held April 24, 2026, at Smokey’s on the Gorge at Adventures on the Gorge, with a cocktail hour beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The gathering brings together community members, child advocates, and local leaders to recognize those whose service makes a lasting difference in the lives of children and families. While formal attire is encouraged, organizers emphasize that attendees should come as they feel most comfortable, noting that the focus of the evening is supporting the mission of child safety and well‑being.
This year’s honorees include:
- Beckley Police Department — Partner in Progress Award
- Trooper Courtney Casey, West Virginia State Police — Team Triumph Award
- Deputy Korey Spears, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office — Hope Builder Award
- Jan‑Care Ambulance Service — Community Champion Award
- Sue Lessman — Beacon of Hope Award, the event’s highest honor
