RALEIGH COUNTY, W.Va. – A judge has declared a mistrial in the case of Timothy Kennedy, who is accused of killing West Virginia State Trooper Cory Maynard.
The decision came after reports of juror misconduct disrupted proceedings. Kennedy was charged in connection with the 2023 shooting death of Trooper Maynard, an incident that shocked the law enforcement community across the state.
The mistrial means prosecutors will have to retry the case, extending the wait for justice for Maynard’s family and colleagues. Officials say a new trial date will be set in the coming weeks.
