United Way of Southern West Virginia will mark Giving Tuesday with an Open House at its Beckley office on December 2. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 110 Croft Street.
Giving Tuesday is a global initiative that encourages charitable giving, volunteerism, and acts of kindness. The Open House will also celebrate United Way’s 60 years of service in the region. Founded in 1965, the organization has worked to improve health, education, and financial stability for residents across southern West Virginia.
Executive Director Trena Dacal said the event is an opportunity for community members to learn more about United Way’s services and fundraising efforts. “We’re excited to open our doors on Giving Tuesday to host our friends and neighbors and introduce them to our staff,” she said. Dacal encouraged supporters to consider a $60 donation in honor of the organization’s anniversary.
United Way of Southern West Virginia provides funding to more than 30 community partners and operates programs including the Equal Footing Shoe Fund and the 211 Information and Referral Hotline. Its service area includes Fayette, McDowell, Mercer, Nicholas, Raleigh, Summers, and Wyoming counties, as well as Bluefield, Virginia.
