LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. — The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has opened ticket sales for its 2026 elk management tours, giving visitors an opportunity to see the state’s growing elk population and learn more about one of West Virginia’s major wildlife restoration efforts.
The guided tours take visitors through scenic areas of Logan County, where participants may get an up-close look at elk while learning about the work being done to restore and manage the species in the Mountain State.
West Virginia’s elk restoration program began in 2016. Since then, the DNR has introduced 119 elk to the Tomblin Wildlife Management Area as part of an ongoing effort to establish a sustainable elk population in southern West Virginia. State wildlife officials have described the restoration effort as one of West Virginia’s greatest conservation successes.
The elk management tours offer visitors more than just wildlife viewing. Participants can learn about elk habitat, wildlife management practices and the long-term conservation work involved in bringing elk back to West Virginia.
The 2026 tour season begins Sunday, September 13, and continues through October 24.
Because space on the guided tours is limited, those interested in participating are encouraged to make reservations in advance.
