BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) — A routine patrol in Beckley led to a major drug and weapons seizure after a police K9 alerted officers to narcotics inside an SUV, authorities said Monday.
The Beckley Police Department said Officer Amick was patrolling the Springdale Avenue area when he stopped a Land Rover SUV for an expired registration. After speaking with the driver and passengers, Amick deployed his K9 partner, Luna, to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle. Police said Luna alerted to the presence of narcotics.
During the search that followed, officers found rear passenger Jaylon Breckenridge in possession of multiple drugs, firearms and cash, according to the department. Items seized included:
- 72.57 grams of marijuana
- 14.85 grams of methamphetamine
- 21.97 grams of powdered cocaine
- 15.05 grams of crack cocaine
- 12.77 grams of fentanyl
- 20.27 grams of MDMA
- Four oxycodone pills
- 21.5 dextroamphetamine pills
- Two handguns
- More than $3,000 in cash
Breckenridge was charged with multiple counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. He was taken to Southern Regional Jail and is being held on $75,000 bond, police said.
