Governor Morrisey Announces $17 Million in Economic Enhancement Grants for Water and Sewer Projects

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — More than $17 million in Economic Enhancement Grant funding has been approved for major water and sewer infrastructure projects in three West Virginia counties, Governor Patrick Morrisey announced Monday.

The grants, awarded through the West Virginia Water Development Authority, will support system expansions and drinking water upgrades aimed at boosting housing development, strengthening public health protections and preparing communities for future economic growth.

“Infrastructure is often the difference between a project moving forward and an opportunity being lost,” Morrisey said in a statement. “These investments will help communities prepare for growth, support new housing development, strengthen public health protections, and ensure West Virginia is ready to compete for future investment.”

The largest award — $14.4 million — will go to the Mason County Public Service District for a sewer line extension along State Route 817. Officials say the project will support two planned residential developments and help address the county’s growing need for housing.

In Morgan County, the Warm Springs Public Service District will receive $1 million to extend sewer service to Senior Life Services of Morgan County and nearby properties, opening the door for additional development.

The Parkersburg Utility Board in Wood County was awarded $2 million to upgrade its water treatment plant. The improvements will expand the facility’s ability to meet new federal drinking water standards for PFAS. Combined with contributions from Chemours, the Drinking Water Technical Review Fund and local funding, the project totals more than $25.7 million.

State officials say the combined investments will expand system capacity, support residential growth and improve water quality for thousands of residents across the region.
