Governor Morrisey Issues Pearl Harbor Remembrance Proclamation

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Governor Patrick Morrisey has signed a proclamation recognizing Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day in West Virginia, calling on residents to pause for a moment of silence or prayer at 7:55 a.m. on December 7, 2025.
The time marks the exact moment when Japanese forces launched their surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. More than 2,300 Americans were killed and more than 1,100 wounded in the assault, which crippled 21 naval ships and destroyed or damaged numerous aircraft. Among the vessels struck was the U.S.S. West Virginia, a battleship that suffered heavy losses but later returned to service in World War II.
Flags across the state have already been lowered to half‑staff in honor of Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, a West Virginia service member. The governor’s proclamation adds a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made during Pearl Harbor and the importance of honoring both past and present military service.
