HOPE Scholarship Surge

Charleston, W.Va. — West Virginia’s HOPE Scholarship Program is preparing for a record year, with officials expecting up to 30,000 students to participate in 2026–27.

State Treasurer Larry Pack says more than 20,000 applications have already been submitted, including 8,000 new students and nearly 12,000 returning recipients. The program, which now allows all K–12 students statewide to apply, provides funding for private schooling, homeschooling, and other educational expenses.

The scholarship amount for next school year is projected at $5,435 per student, and lawmakers have set aside nearly $300 million to fully fund the program.

New applicants have until June 15 to qualify for full funding.
