Measles Case Confirmed in Barbour County; Health Officials Issue Alert

State health officials have confirmed a measles case in an unvaccinated Barbour County resident, prompting alerts to clinicians across West Virginia.

While no widespread community exposure has been identified, the Department of Health is urging providers to watch for symptoms including fever, cough, and rash. “Measles is highly contagious and can spread through the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area,” officials noted.

Health leaders say vaccination remains the best protection, and anyone with concerns should contact their healthcare provider.
