Morrisey Announces Tourism Works Milestone: 25,000 Microcredentials Earned

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Governor Patrick Morrisey says West Virginia’s Tourism Works program has reached a major workforce milestone, with participants earning more than 25,000 microcredentials and 1,000 college credit hours since the initiative launched last year. More than 4,000 West Virginians have enrolled in the free online training program.

Morrisey said the state’s tourism industry continues to grow, supporting more than 70,000 jobs and generating an estimated 21,000 job openings each year. The Tourism Works program was created to help residents gain skills needed to fill those positions, including customer service, communication, and community‑ambassador training.

Participants include high school and college students, educators, industry professionals, and residents interested in promoting their communities. The program consists of 12 modules and prepares graduates to serve as “Ask Me, I’m a Local” ambassadors.

Morrisey said the milestone shows strong interest in joining the state’s expanding tourism workforce and reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen West Virginia’s economy.
