Nearly 5,000 West Virginians Cast Ballots on First Day of Early Voting

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner reports that 4,858 voters cast ballots in person on the first day of early voting for the May 12 Primary Election.

Early voting began Wednesday, April 29, with all 55 counties offering at least one polling location, most inside county courthouses. Warner said 1,812 absentee ballots had also been returned as of Thursday morning, bringing total participation to 6,670 voters statewide.

This year’s primary features 2,717 state, county, and municipal candidates — the highest number in recent memory. By 2032, all 230 municipalities will be required to hold their elections during state election cycles.

Warner reminds voters that photo ID is required and sample ballots for all precincts are available at GoVoteWV.com.
