RALEIGH COUNTY, W.Va. — October 13, 2025
The Raleigh County Commission has officially awarded more than $1 million in opioid abatement funding through its New Direction Grant program. The initiative is designed to support local organizations working to prevent substance misuse and provide recovery services across the county.
After opening the application process earlier this year, the commission worked with a community-led subcommittee to review proposals and select recipients. The funding will support a range of prevention and support efforts, including education, outreach, and victim services.
Grant recipients include the Salvation Army, Heart of God Ministries, the Raleigh County United for Prevention Coalition, and ten additional organizations focused on recovery and community wellness.
County leaders say the goal is to make a meaningful impact on the opioid crisis by empowering grassroots efforts and expanding access to support services. Additional rounds of funding are expected in the future as part of the county’s long-term strategy to address addiction and its effects on families.
The New Direction Grant reflects Raleigh County’s commitment to investing in local solutions and improving public health outcomes through collaboration and targeted support.
