Raleigh County Schools to Provide Free Meals for All Students Through Federal Eligibility Program

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Raleigh County Schools announced that all 26 schools in the district will participate in the federal Community Eligibility Provision for the 2026–2027 school year, allowing every student to receive free breakfast and lunch each day without submitting a meal application.

District officials said the move is intended to reduce food insecurity and ensure consistent access to meals for all students, regardless of household income. The CEP program, administered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, provides funding to schools in qualifying areas so they can serve meals at no cost.

Raleigh County Schools spokesperson Brandy Lawrence said the district is committed to removing barriers that affect student well‑being and academic performance. She noted that participation in CEP simplifies the process for families and ensures no child is excluded from receiving meals.

The district will provide additional information to families ahead of the start of the school year.
