Beckley, WV — The Salvation Army of Beckley is calling on the community for support as donations to this year’s Red Kettle campaign fall significantly behind expectations. With Christmas quickly approaching, the organization reports it will need a holiday miracle to reach its $150,000 fundraising goal. Efforts are $7,000 behind last year and $72,000 away from the goal.
The annual Red Kettle campaign is the primary source of funding for many of the Salvation Army’s local programs. Money raised stays in the zip code in which it was collected— supporting the community through programs such as: soup kitchen, after-school programs, youth music instruction, and emergency utility assistance for families in need and food pantry.
“We rely on the generosity of our neighbors to make these programs possible,” said Captain Liz Blusiewicz with the Beckley Salvation Army. “Lower donations because of the snow this season means we risk not being able to fully meet the needs of the communities we serve.”
The Salvation Army encourages residents to donate at any Red Kettle location or give online at Beckley.SalvationArmyPotomac.org to help close the gap. Even small contributions, they say, make a real difference for children, seniors, and families across Raleigh County.
