State Awards More Than $2.1 Million to Strengthen Child Advocacy Centers Across West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Governor Patrick Morrisey has announced more than $2.1 million in grant funding to support 22 Child Advocacy Center projects across West Virginia, strengthening the state’s multidisciplinary response to child abuse and neglect.

The Child Advocacy Center Grant Program, administered by the Justice and Community Services Section of the West Virginia Division of Administrative Services, provides funding to nonprofit centers that offer forensic interviews, medical evaluations, counseling, advocacy, education, and coordinated investigative services for child victims.

“Protecting West Virginia’s children is one of our most important responsibilities,” Morrisey said. “These grants ensure that children who have experienced abuse receive the care, advocacy, and support they need while helping law enforcement, prosecutors, medical professionals, and child advocates work together to pursue justice and protect our most vulnerable citizens.”

Funding was awarded to centers serving nearly every region of the state, including Burlington United Methodist Family Services in the Eastern Panhandle, CAMC Women and Children’s Child Advocacy Center in Kanawha County, Just for Kids in Raleigh and Fayette counties, Harmony House in the Northern Panhandle, and the West Virginia Child Abuse Network, which supports statewide coordination.

Grant awards range from approximately $73,000 to $134,000, supporting services such as forensic interviews, trauma‑informed therapy, medical accompaniment, case management, multidisciplinary team coordination, and community education. Several centers will use funding to expand direct services, strengthen partnerships with law enforcement and child protective services, and enhance child‑friendly environments for investigations.

The grants also support regional programs in Mercer, Greenbrier, Upshur, Nicholas, Randolph, Logan, Marion, Monongalia, and other counties, ensuring statewide access to child‑focused, developmentally appropriate services.
