West Virginia Approves $3.3 Million for Water Infrastructure Projects

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Patrick Morrisey announced Tuesday that the West Virginia Infrastructure and Jobs Development Council has approved about $3.3 million in funding and financing for four water infrastructure projects across the state. Officials say the awards will help leverage nearly $26 million in total investment through partnerships with federal, local and regional agencies.

The Cowen Public Service District in Webster County will receive $1 million to extend potable water and fire service to roughly 60 residents along Route 82. The project is expected to support future housing and small‑scale commercial development and completes a $6 million funding package.

The Kanawha Regional Development Authority was awarded $1 million to extend water service to 82 new customers in the Leatherwood area and replace aging lines serving 25 existing customers in the Reamer Hill Water Association service area. The funding finalizes an $8.3 million project supported by multiple federal and local partners.

In Brooke County, the City of Follansbee will receive a $500,000 grant to upgrade the Hooverson Heights Water Treatment Plant, including replacement of filter control valves and control panels. The grant completes the $1.8 million needed for the project.

The McDowell County Public Service District will receive $851,000 to extend water service along Baker Ridge Road, Panther Creek Road, Rock Ridge and Lex in the Jolo area. The project will benefit 119 households and local businesses and completes a $9.8 million financing package.

State officials say the projects will expand access to safe drinking water, modernize aging systems and support economic development across West Virginia.
