West Virginia Extends Deadline for SNAP Food Loss Reports After Severe Storms: Monday July 13th

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The West Virginia Department of Human Services has received federal approval to extend the deadline for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients to report food losses tied to severe storms that swept through Boone, Logan and Raleigh counties beginning June 22.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture granted the extension after the slow‑moving system brought damaging winds, heavy rain and prolonged power outages across southern West Virginia. Some communities saw more than six inches of rainfall, leading to widespread flooding and damage to homes, roads and local infrastructure.

SNAP households in the affected counties now have until July 13, 2026, to report food losses and request replacement benefits.

To qualify, households must be West Virginia residents, currently receive SNAP, have lost food due to a disaster or a power outage lasting more than four hours, and submit a signed affidavit.

Residents can contact their local DoHS office or call the Office of Constituent Services’ Customer Service Hotline at 1‑877‑716‑1212 for help or additional information.
