Women United to Host Educational Presentation on Sexual Exploitation and Sextortion

Beckley, WV — Women United, an initiative of United Way of Southern West Virginia, will host an important
educational presentation to help parents and community members better understand the growing dangers of
sexual exploitation and sextortion affecting young people.
The event, “About Sexual Exploitation & Sextortion: What Parents Need to Know,” will take place on
Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at the Historic Black Knight Country Club in Beckley. The program is
designed to provide parents, caregivers, educators, and community members with critical information about
online exploitation, warning signs, and practical steps to protect children.
As technology and social media continue to shape the lives of young people, online predators are increasingly
using manipulation, coercion, and blackmail to exploit vulnerable youth. Agents from the FBI Pittsburgh
Division will provide information regarding the risks associated with social media and digital communication
platforms, and give practical tips for prevention.
Women United is committed to strengthening families and improving the well-being of children throughout
Southern West Virginia. By hosting this educational event, the organization hopes to empower parents and
caregivers with knowledge that can help prevent exploitation and create safer online environments for young
people.
“Protecting our children requires awareness, education, and open conversations,” said Trena Dacal, Executive
Director of United Way of Southern West Virginia. “This program is an opportunity for our community to
come together, learn about the risks children face online, and take steps to keep them safe.”
Lunch will be provided and registration is necessary to attend. Community members may RSVP by emailing
tdacal@unitedwayswv.org or by calling 304-253-2111. This event is hosted by Women United of United Way
of Southern West Virginia and supported by STROLL Glade Springs Village.
