BECKLEY, W.Va. — The West Virginia University School of Nursing’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program has been named a WVU Board of Governors Program of Excellence, a designation recognizing academic distinction, faculty achievement, graduate success, and strong curriculum outcomes. The honor includes the WVU School of Nursing’s Beckley Campus, located at WVU Tech.
The Program of Excellence designation evaluates programs on state and national recognition, faculty credentials, graduate career placement, measurable learning outcomes, and accreditation standards.
“We are deeply honored to receive the designation as a WVU Board of Governors Program of Excellence,” said Hillary Parcell, Chair of the WVU School of Nursing, Beckley Campus. “This recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication and hard work of our faculty and staff.”
The Beckley Campus has demonstrated strong performance in recent years, including a 100% NCLEX pass rate in 2024 and more than 90% in 2025, with hundreds of graduates now working in hospitals across West Virginia and the nation. The BSN program is consistently ranked the No. 1 baccalaureate nursing program in West Virginia by RegisteredNursing.org.
“This recognition affirms the School of Nursing’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence,” said Dr. Tara Hulsey, Dean and E. Jane Martin Endowed Professor. “Our expert faculty go above and beyond in preparing the next generation of nurses for skilled and compassionate care.”
Parcell praised the Beckley faculty and staff for their commitment to student success, noting that graduates enter the workforce career‑ready thanks to extensive clinical hours, community and rural health training, and proximity to multiple healthcare facilities in the Beckley region.
